Historical Sorrento AttractionsApart from the Roman Ruins that are a famous attraction at Sorrento, there are some medieval buildings that are yet intact. Palazzo Veniero and Palazzo Correale from 13th and 14th century have traditional wooden marquetry on their facades still in place.The 15th-century Duomo Cathedral has a Romanesque facade graced by a fresco over the portal. Inside are 14th and 15th century bas-reliefs and a superb marquetry choir. Sorrento, famous for its craft of marquetry and wood inlay has the Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea with a collection of 19th-century marquetry furniture and frescoes decorating the 18th-century Palazzo Pomaranci Santomasi, housing the museum. The elegant and well-preserved 15th-century palazzo Sedile Dominova is a great attraction as a shrine to Sorrento’s founding families. At the seafront promenade you can see the 18th-century San Francesco church. Right across is the Villa Comunale offering panoramic view of the sea. Steep ramps descend to Marina Piccola, one of Sorrento's harbors. The town's other harbor is Marina Grande, which is lined with restaurants and seaside establishments. |
